Course Description

The Advanced Property Development – Level 4 Course provides the student with a clear and concise understanding of the nature of property development, and teaches what is involved and how to undertake a successful project.

In a highly structured and clear manner, you will gain a wealth of information and learn important skills that are required to prosper in this challenging business area. The course covers many issues such as Property Development, Health and Safety, Project Management and Construction, which will enable you to tackle large projects and ensure you have the skills to see the development through to the end.

On successful completion of this course students will receive an endorsed Level 4 Certificate of Achievement from ABC Awards and Certa Awards.

The Advanced Property Development – Level 4 Course Includes the Following Units:

This course is a more challenging and in-depth alternative to the Property Development – Level 3 Course. The course includes all of the same modules, and it is not designed to be a progression from that course.

Unit 1 of this course contains all of the units detailed in the Property Development – Level 3 Course. This course has 3 additional units, and the main difference is the coursework required will be more challenging.

This Unit contains the following topics: What is property development?, Where to buy property, Professionals involved in property development, The credit crunch, Research, Land Acquisition, Legal aspects of property, Conveyancing & surveys, Property types, How to finance your property, Design plans, Building regulations, The planning process, Building a buy to let portfolio, Stamp duty, Renovating property, Buying property at auction, Buying property before it is built, Buying property in Scotland, Ireland & abroad, Property & legal glossary.
This Unit contains the following topics: What is project management?, History of project management, Organisational structure, Project life cycle, Feasibility studies, Project estimating & scope definition, Project procurement plan, Work breakdown structure, Critical path, Resource planning, Controlling the project, Quality management, Risk management.
This Unit contains the following topics: Factors that affect human comfort, How forces act on structures, Predicting structural behaviour, Construction materials and their manufacturing techniques, Performance criteria of key materials, Construction materials, Construction materials & techniques used to prevent deterioration.
This Unit contains the following topics: The responsibilities of employers and employees, Policies, Hazards and risks, Using risk assessment in appropriate formats, Control & monitoring, Movement – Hazards & control, Manual handling, Work equipment, Electrical hazards, Fire hazards, Chemical & biological hazards, Incident & accident investigation and reporting.


As this is a Level 4 course, we will expect applicants to have evidence of successful study or relevant experience at Level 3 or equivalent. A good level of literacy is also a requirement if the extended assignment work is to be completed successfully.

Course Duration & Online Support

You can start this course at any time, and you would be registered for a one-year period. You also have access to a personal tutor who can be contacted by email. Your tutor is available to assist with any queries and to mark your assignments for the Awarding Body.

As the course is self-study, you can complete it as quickly as you like. Support extensions are available if students do not complete the course within the one-year period.


You will be assessed on TMAs (Tutor Marked Assignments). Most TMAs consists of short paragraph answers, although some TMAs may have a specific word count. The main criteria to pass as assignment is to prove to the tutor that you have fully understood the question and have answered it sufficiently.

If the assignment is not of the required level or needs an amendment it will be detailed in your tutor feedback so you can make any required changes. The course tutor will be happy to give guidance as to how you might improve you answers. Your work can be sent back to your course tutor by email or by post.

At the end of this course successful learners will receive a Certificate of Achievement from ABC Awards and Certa Awards and a Learner Unit Summary (which lists the components the learner has completed as part of the course).
