The aim of this self-study course is to provide a comprehensive guide to the criminology and examines in detail a range of criminal activity together with detection and prevention methods in common use. This is an ideal course for anyone wishing to improve knowledge of crime, its impact on society, and the ways in which justice is administered.

In this Unit you will learn to: Describe how to focus on the causes of crime and use problem solving tools in order to significantly reduce or eliminate the factors that can to lead crime.
In this Unit you will learn to: Understand why youths turn to crime and why everyone has a role in supporting youth and preventing youth crime.
In this Unit you will learn to: Describe different forms of anti-social behaviour, who it affects, its long terms effects and approaches to tackling it.
In this Unit you will learn to: Describe what Forensic Psychology is, how it works; from basic theories and principles, through research, understanding and explaining results, to the actual application of psychological techniques.
In this Unit you will learn to: Understand what is meant by Criminal profiling, and how the use of scientific methods, logical reasoning, sources of information on people, criminology, victimology, and experience or skill is employed to interpret the events that surround the commission of a crime.
In this Unit you will learn to: Understanding what terrorism is and why it is a deliberate use of violence against civilians for political or religious ends.

Prerequistes

There are no particular entry requirements for this course, so students can sign up providing they are comfortable studying at a Level 3 standard.

Course Duration & Online Support

You can start this course at any time, and you would be registered for a one-year period. You also have access to a personal tutor who can be contacted by email. Your tutor is available to assist with any queries and to mark your assignments for the Awarding Body.

As the course is self-study, you can complete it as quickly as you like. Support extensions are available if students do not complete the course within the one-year period.

Assessment

You will be assessed on TMAs (Tutor Marked Assignments). Most TMAs consists of short paragraph answers, although some TMAs may have a specific word count. The main criteria to pass as assignment is to prove to the tutor that you have fully understood the question and have answered it sufficiently.

If the assignment is not of the required level or needs an amendment it will be detailed in your tutor feedback so you can make any required changes. The course tutor will be happy to give guidance as to how you might improve you answers. Your work can be sent back to your course tutor by email or by post.
