Course Description

The Employment Skills – Level 2 Course is designed for people who wish to gain an understanding of the knowledge and skill required to make successful employment applications and the key elements of working in a wide variety of occupations. Anyone seeking to enter or re-enter the world of employment would benefit.

Course Objectives:

This Course Will show you how to:

  • Raise awareness of the importance of customers and customer care
  • Understand the significance of being motivated and of working in a team
  • Appreciate key aspects of health and safety in the workplace
  • Practice the skills of searching applying and being interviewed for employment7

On successful completion of this course students will receive an endorsed Level 2 Certificate of Achievement from ABC Awards and Certa Awards.

The Employment Skills – Level 2 includes the following units:
Learning Outcomes: Be able to identify how businesses differ in purpose and customer base; and Understand the relationship between qualities and business and how this changes depending on the nature of the business.
Learning Outcomes: Understand the different types of problem they might encounter in the place of work; and Recognise the methods available to develop solutions for straightforward problems.
Learning Outcomes: Understand the features of good team work; Understand the need to work co-operatively with others in the team; and Understand how team members value each other’s contributions.
Learning Outcomes: Understand customer needs within the context of a specific work environment; and Be able to show appropriate customer care.
Learning Outcomes: Understand what motivates and demotivates individuals at work and how this might influence their own performance; and Understand how motivated and demotivated staff can have a positive or negative effect on the place of work.
Learning Outcomes: Understand how time can be managed and know why time management is important; and Be able to plan own work actively with some autonomy.
Learning Outcomes: Outline the legislation and responsibilities for keeping people safe in a work situation; and Understand how the employee can help to ensure health and safety is adhered to in a particular place of work.
Learning Outcomes: Understand where and how to search for jobs; Understand how to develop a personal career plan; and Understand how to assess their individual prospects against potential opportunities.
Learning Outcomes: Understand the type of information that job applications usually ask for; Understand how to complete a job application form and write a covering letter; and Understand how to write a CV.
Learning Outcomes: Understand what preparation is required before taking part in an interview; Know how to conduct themselves during an interview; and Be able to reflect on their preparation and performance in an interview situation.

Prerequisites

There are no particular entry requirements for this course, so students can sign up providing they are comfortable studying at a Level 2 standard.

Course Duration & Online Support

You can start this course at any time, and you would be registered for a one-year period. You also have access to a personal tutor who can be contacted by email. Your tutor is available to assist with any queries and to mark your assignments for the Awarding Body.

As the course is self-study, you can complete it as quickly as you like. Support extensions are available if students do not complete the course within the one-year period.

Assessment

You will be assessed on TMAs (Tutor Marked Assignments). Most TMAs consists of short paragraph answers, although some TMAs may have a specific word count. The main criteria to pass as assignment is to prove to the tutor that you have fully understood the question and have answered it sufficiently.

If the assignment is not of the required level or needs an amendment it will be detailed in your tutor feedback so you can make any required changes. The course tutor will be happy to give guidance as to how you might improve you answers. Your work can be sent back to your course tutor by email or by post.

At the end of this course successful learners will receive a Certificate of Achievement from ABC Awards and Certa Awards and a Learner Unit Summary (which lists the components the learner has completed as part of the course).
