Course Description

The Understanding Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) – Level 4 Course is designed for students who which to gain further knowledge in CBT. It is ideal for people who may be working in the statutory or voluntary sectors with those who have mental health issues. Nurses, counsellors, prison officers, probation workers, psychotherapists and other mental health workers may find this course invaluable for useful skills and therapeutic interventions.

Cognitive behavioural therapy is a psychotherapeutic approach that aims to influence dysfunctional emotions, behaviours and cognitions through a goal-oriented, systematic procedure. Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is recommended by the National Institute for Clinical Excellence (NICE) for the treatment of many mental health conditions. It is therefore one of the most commonly used therapies in the private and statutory sectors. CBT is based on the theory that it’s not events themselves that upset us, but the meanings we attach to them.

On successful completion of this course students will receive an endorsed Level 4 Certificate of Achievement from ABC Awards and Certa Awards.

ACCPH is an independent professional body and register for counsellors, coaches, psychotherapists and hypnotherapists. They offer membership options for students who have completed studies by blended and home distance learning providing they are of a specific nationally recognised standard. They can also assist with Insurance for members.

Prerequisites

As this is a Level 4 course, we will expect applicants to have evidence of successful study or relevant experience at Level 3 or equivalent. A good level of literacy is also a requirement if the extended assignment work is to be completed successfully.

Course Duration & Online Support

You can start this course at any time, and you would be registered for a one-year period. You also have access to a personal tutor who can be contacted by email. Your tutor is available to assist with any queries and to mark your assignments for the Awarding Body.

As the course is self-study, you can complete it as quickly as you like. Support extensions are available if students do not complete the course within the one-year period.

Assessment

You will be assessed on TMAs (Tutor Marked Assignments). Most TMAs consists of short paragraph answers, although some TMAs may have a specific word count. The main criteria to pass as assignment is to prove to the tutor that you have fully understood the question and have answered it sufficiently.

If the assignment is not of the required level or needs an amendment it will be detailed in your tutor feedback so you can make any required changes. The course tutor will be happy to give guidance as to how you might improve you answers. Your work can be sent back to your course tutor by email or by post.

At the end of this course successful learners will receive a Certificate of Achievement from ABC Awards and Certa Awards and a Learner Unit Summary (which lists the components the learner has completed as part of the course).
